Meet The Family
12/17/2006
It’s been a busy weekend. Saturday we went to a Christmas party given by our neighbor who is also our landlord and Hubby’s boss. We had a great time and Hubby scored a Christmas bonus that wasn’t too shabby considering he’s only been working for them for three weeks. It’s the first party that we’ve been too that wasn’t a family party in about 10 years.
Today we went to Jonesboro to have Christmas with my daughter and her family. The picture below is my grandson Heath and I. Heath is our first grandchild and he’s 13 years old. The last time that I saw him was in March and boy has he grown! He’s taller than I am and I’m 5’3". I wasn’t prepared for him to be as tall or as big as he is. He’s really buffed up since I saw him last, he said that it’s because of playing football. I have a feeling that puberty played a little bit in it as well. It really made me feel old for my grandson to be taller than me. But then, I feel old just knowing that my daughter will be 33 years old in February.

This is a picture of my daughter Heather, me and my son Keith. The only thing that would have made this picture better is if Kendall had been there too. I’d have felt like I had died and gone to heaven. Can you tell that we are squinting because the sun is shining in our eyes? Sometimes it’s hard to believe that man on the right is going to be 28 years old in 12 more days.

The picture below is my kids and grandkids. Katie is the blond little girl, then Heather, Dalton, Keith, Garret and Heath. Missing is my son Kendall, his daughter Sydney and Keith’s other son little Keith (Elrod). I’ve posted many a picture of Elrod on this blog because he’s the one that spends the most time with me. If Kendall, Sydney and little Keith had been there I’d definitely known that I’d died and gone to heaven. Dalton is wearing the sweater that we got him for Christmas. His was the only Christmas present that fit. Katie’s outfit was too big and Heath’s was too small. I had no idea that he was now wearing men’s sizes.

And of course this is today’s Christmas socks. Remember yesterday I told you that these are special? The reason that they are special is that this is a new pair for this year, but what makes them extra special is that this year I started a new tradition. I bought a pair just like them and gave them to my daughter. From now on, each Christmas when I buy myself a new pair, I will buy a matching pair for my daughter. When her daughter is old enough or has feet big enough to wear the size that they come in, I will buy her a pair to match too. As I explained to my daughter, it isn’t much but it at least makes me feel that when I wear this pair of sock I’ll feel a connection to her just because I know that she has a matching pair. I’m hoping that I can find enough of the same socks each year for all of the girls-my daughter, my grand-daughters, my daughter-in-laws and my ex daughters-in-laws. I’ve remained on good terms with my ex daughters-in-la’s because they are the mother’s of my grandchildren. I have no grudges with them that things didn’t work out with them and my son’s. It serves positive purpose if my grandchildren think that I don’t like their mother and I will not put my grandchildren in the middle of a tug-of-war. Anyway, my daughter loved the idea of the matching socks. She knows that it doesn’t take much to make me happy. Yeah, I’m a sentimental old sap, but it works for me and my kids love me that much more because of it.

That’s my weekend. I hope that your’s was just a good as mine. I have to finish up my Christmas shopping this week. I have five more presents to buy and then I’m done. It’s a good thing too, because I think I hear those sleigh bells warming up in the distance.
