The winds of change of blew through America yesterday like hurricane Katrina ripped through the Gulf. The voters have spoken and now the hope, dreams and fate of our country will be placed in the hands of Barack Obama come January 20, 2009.
I’m very proud that enough people were able to see through all the Republican propaganda that has been circulating. I’m proud that we as a nation, the majority of us have been able to put our prejudices aside and elect a black man as our next President. It just goes to show exactly how we have progressed since the beginning of the civil rights movement. I’m proud that people could see through the "threat" that he must be Muslim because he father is a Muslim. I’m proud that people saw through the unvoiced threat that he must be a terrorist because his father is a Muslim and therefore he must have terrorist ties.
I know without a doubt that there will be many eyes upon President Elect Obama to see if he can actually put his money where his mouth is. One thing is for sure, we couldn’t go on as we were going.
I’m sure that ol’ Abe is smiling down from heaven and as far as dreams go, I’m sure that this is one dream that were Martin Luther King, Jr. alive, he too would be proud of our country.
And being as I hate politics, I’m so glad that this is over for a few years, at least on a national level.

As I was reading my news headlines on my Yahoo page Friday evening, I came across this story. Go ahead and click on it, I’ll patiently wait for you to come back. Is that not the most bizarre thing that you’ve read in a while? I don’t quite know what to think about it.
So maybe this means I need to eat more foods that make gas? Maybe I should feed them to Hubby too so that way I’d get double the dose. Maybe Elrod should come to live with us because not only is he full of gas but he gets a big kick out of chasing me so that he can fart on me. Oh the possibilities

I’m neither a lover or hater of Martha Stewart. She’s way to fancy for this country-fied city girl. I did however find the highlighted statement below humorous.
In 2004, Stewart was convicted in federal court of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and making false statements related to a personal sale of ImClone Systems Inc. stock. She got a five-month prison sentence, and also served an additional five months and three weeks of home confinement.
A Home Office spokeswoman, however, refused to comment about Stewart’s entry to Britain, but added: "We continue to oppose the entry to the U.K. of individuals where we believe their presence in the United Kingdom is not conducive to the public good or where they have been found guilty of serious criminal offenses abroad."
Yeah, I agree. Why she might conspire to gets someone to lie about something.

I found this sad item in one of my news readers this morning:
TURLOCK, Calif. (AP) – Police killed a 27-year-old man as he kicked, punched and stomped a toddler to death despite other people’s attempts to stop him on a dark, country road, authorities said.
According to the article, the child appeared to be between 1 and 2 years of age. I hope that there is a special hell for men like this. Too bad one of the people that tried to stop this man didn’t go ahead and shoot the bastard…maybe then the child would have survived. Go read the rest of the article and see if you agree with me.

I got this in my email, I don’t know how true it is, but it all sounds very plausible to me. If you visit Wal-Mart’s on line store it has a banner at the bottom of the page telling how much money they have saved families since 01-01-08, I checked it as I wrote this and it was $110 billion and growing by $9,000-10,000 every second. If they are saving people close to $10,000 per second a profit of $20,000 per minute doesn’t sound that far off. Oh and did you know Wal-Mart even has their own blog? I’m not linking to it, but it’s at the bottom of the home page if you want to check it out.
01. At Wal-Mart, Americans spend $36,000,000 every hour of every day.
02. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!
03. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th)
than Target sells all year.
04. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target + Sears + Costco +
K-Mart combined.
05. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people and is the largest private employer.
06. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the World.
07. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger and Safeway combined, and keep in mind they did this in only 15 years.
08. During this same period, 31 Supermarket chains sought bankruptcy
(including Winn-Dixie).
09. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.
10. Wal-Mart has approximately 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are
Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had 5 years ago.
11. This year, 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur at a
Wal-Mart store. (Earth’s population is approximately 6.5 billion).
12. 90% of all Americans live within 15 miles of a Wal-Mart.

Somebody has been stealing metal benches from the sports complex’s and parks around Batesville and selling them for the scrap metal. I found this line in the article about the theft particular amusing:
Twelve other benches, located at Fitzhugh Park on 20th Street, were disassembled and removed from their bases embedded in concrete.
The reason that I find this amusing? If you stood in the parking lot of the County Sheriff’s office you could see this location. So someone is stealing these benches right out from under the Sheriff’s nose. Talk about being ballsy, that has to take the cake.
I guess desperate times cause desperate actions.
