We’re Outta Here

11/26/2008

We’re heading out for home today to spend Thanksgiving with Ma.  It looks like this year there won’t be the on going battle and having the family divided (long story) for this holiday.  We’ll be celebrating our Thanksgiving dinner at Hubby’s oldest sisters house which is a good thing because if we were to have it at Ma’s she’d just over do it and that wouldn’t be good for her.  Of course that probably means that the nephew that is a sheet head probably won’t be in attendance but I’m hoping that for his granny’s sake he’ll do the right thing for a change.

I have some posts scheduled while I’m gone.  Fridays post may not mean any thing to any of you, but it is a video that is dear to my heart and some thing that I grew up with and was around every Christmas season until I moved to Arkansas.  I’m probably posting it more for myself than anyone else, but still I wanted to share a little bit of my childhood with y’all.

I Spy With My Little Eye

11/24/2008

We made another honey run for Gordo on Saturday.  We headed off to Springfield Missouri.  Along the way we saw a lot of this:

And this:

And this:

And herds of cows of which I didn’t take any pictures because after the first 30 or 40 herds it just wasn’t funny to say "we got cows" any longer.  I think that’s probably the funniest line from the movie Twister and Hubby is probably tired of hearing me say it all the time anyway.

I’m afraid I stayed up way too late Saturday night.  I finally called it a night around 3 a.m., it sure made it hard to crawl out of bed at 6 a.m. when Hubby wanted to be up so that we could have breakfast and be on the road by 9 a.m.  I pulled it off and didn’t even shut my eyes for a nap the entire day.  We got within about 5 miles of home and my eyes were like cement blocks.  When we got into the house I didn’t pass go or collect $200, I went straight to bed.

Hubby is off today making a run to Russellville.  I was going to go but back out at the last minute because I’ve not had a chance to get things back in order from our 3 day trip last week much less this last one.  I was going to be pressed to get every thing ready to go to Ma’s on Wednesday had I gone today.  I’ve got a list of things that need to be done that I’ll be working on today so I better shake a leg and get a move on to get everything done.

Elk Round Two

11/22/2008

Remember last month when Hubby took me through Jasper to see the Elk?  We weren’t able to see them but at the tree line and they blended in with the tree’s?  Well when we came through Jasper on Thursday we drove about a 1/2 mile out of our way to see if they were out.  This is what I was able to get a picture of.

They were out, not as close to the road as I would have wished but at least this time you can see a whole herd of them laying in the grass soaking up the sunshine.  Darn Elk, I wish they would have been in the pasture where there is a place like at the zoo and you can stand behind the rail and look at them.  Dumb(?) animals.  Sorry if you have to struggle to see them.  Even with my zoom this was the best I could do at bringing them in closer.

Surviving

11/21/2008

We’re finally home and we’re a couple of whupped puppies.  It was a good trip though even if I didn’t recognize Branson.  I guess that’s what happens when you haven’t been to a place in over 22 years.   Hubby got lost a couple of times, I kept asking him if things looked familar and he kept saying that he didn’t know, he didn’t usually drive through there in the dark…and it definitely looks different after dark.

Monday night we ate at a place called Starvin’ Marvin’s.  It was an all you can eat sea food buffet.  When we went in they quoted a price of $24.95 and looked at Hubby and said for you it would be $19.95 for the senior buffet.  I got a big kick out of that first of all because I’m 11 months older than Hubby and secondly because I’ve been telling Hubby that his beard makes him look at least 10 years older.  He really doesn’t care because it gets him the senior discount when we eat out.  It was good for my ego because evidently I don’t look close to being 55 even though in less than two years I will be.

The motel was a decent place and had a decent price, it even had high speed internet.  Unfortunately, we didn’t pick it up because some one had stolen the router for that particular part of the motel.  The did have a nice lobby/breakfast room that I was able to set my laptop up on a table and use the internet for a while.  It wasn’t as convenient as it would have been if it had been available in our room.

Had a good visit with Ma.  She was feeling better but was on the couch most of the visit because she has phlebitis in her other leg now.  She’s decided to not take any more Chemo treatments.  She feels like they are going to kill her before the cancer does and she’s willing to take her risks.  I think I see her logic in this decision.  She knows that no matter what she does, there is no cure of her lung cancer.  It’s progressed so far that there is no hope that they can stop the progression.  She would rather have a few good months as to have to suffer through the Chemo treatments and very well might not even survive them.  I personally would love to have her around longer, but I’m not willing to ask her to suffer to do so and Hubby and I are in complete agreement on this.  We don’t want her to suffer any more than absolutely necessary. It’s her decision, she’s earned the right to make whatever decision she feels best for herself.

We didn’t have any problems on this trip until we got to within 15 miles of it being over.  We came within three feet of wiping out two members of the abundant deer population.  Thank goodness that we were both watching for the pesky creatures and thank goodness that the brakes on the truck were working and that Hubby had the trailer brakes set well enough that they worked too.

I guess that’s all for tonight or today.  I still have to download the picture from my camera but that will have to wait for the light of day.  My eyelids are starting to get very heavy.  Once I get them downloaded maybe I’ll have pictures to share.

Honey Run Day 3

11/20/2008

Well we’re on our last day of this three day trip.  We should be home some time this evening.  I’m looking forward to being home even if it does mean that I’ll be busy getting the laundry all caught up.

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is a week from today?  Where has this year gone to?  Not only are the days flying by, but the years seem to be zooming past too.

When we get home from this trip it will be just a few days and we’ll have to turn around and go back to Ma’s for Thanksgiving.  Just thinking about it makes me wonder if I’m coming or going.

So tell me, have y’all started getting ready for Thanksgiving?  And we won’t even mention that "C" word just yet.

Honey Run Day 2

11/19/2008

One of the nice things about this trip is that we will be passing right in front of Ma’s house.  Of course we won’t pass it without stopping, and we’ll probably spend the night with her.

When we called and told her to expect us today she was thrilled.  She warned us to be prepared because the Chemo treatments have caused her to start losing her hair.  In my opinion she should just shave her head bald, but then again I’m not in her situation and I can’t really say what I’d do since I’m not actually faced with the decision.

Anyway, we are looking forward to the visit even if it will be a brief one.

See y’all when I get home tomorrow!

Honey Run

11/18/2008

We are leaving today and making a "honey" run to Branson Missouri for Gordo.  He’s feeling under the weather and just isn’t up to making the trip.  We’ll be gone until Thursday afternoon if all goes well.

I’m taking my camera, maybe I’ll get some pictures of the pretty fall leaves in that area.  I love the Ozarks this time of year and who knows what else we’ll see along the way that catches my fancy that I’ll have to get a picture of.

Y’all behave while I’m gone and play nice.
